This winter, public transportation has made it to North Creek. Town Supervisor Sterling Goodspeed said a new, locally owned shuttle will boost downtown business by taking winter tourists from Gore Mountain to Ski Bowl and Main Street. The Brant Lake Taxi & Transport Service-owned shuttle is another part of a project officials are calling the interconnect, where new trails and lodges are being built to reopen the historic Ski Bowl and connect it to Gore Mountain. Officials hope the project will attract more visitors to the area; it has already spurred several new businesses in the hamlet. While all of the connections between the two mountains won’t be complete until next winter, one trail from Gore to Ski Bowl is ready. The shuttle will be used by skiers to either get back to Gore or call it a day and go downtown. The service is set to begin on Dec. 19. The businesses formed an alliance, which is helping to pay for the shuttle. Another $5,000 was requested from the town’s bed tax. For a total of 39 days during the ski season, including weekends and holiday weeks, the free shuttle will continuously run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., stopping only during lunchtime. The local taxi company was formed in May 2008 to service a rural area where few options for public transportation exist. Emily Stanton, a spokeswoman for Gore, said the shuttle will not only boost local business, but will help a new group of tourists get around. This year is the first time skiers can take a direct bus from New York City or Ridgewood, N.J., to the mountain. Those visitors will not have their own transportation while in North Creek, she said. “We are excited about this Gore Region community cooperative and look forward to the added service it offers all of our guests and residents,” Stanton said.
