Everyone is welcome to participate in the “Ed Sidote” hike, scheduled for SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2010 along the Finger Lakes Trail on Map M-22 in the NW corner of Chenango County. Meeting time and place is 9 am at the FLT crossing of NY Rte 26, there’s an Otselic River fishing access parking area there. A ‘reception’ of sorts will be held from 9 to 9:30 am to give everyone a chance to greet the hike’s namesake, Ed Sidote, before the hike begins. The hike is being led by Don Windsor and others from the Bullthistle Hiking Club, Ed Sidote’s home club. Don will lead the longer of the two hikes, a 7 mile loop utilizing the FLT and parallel state forest access roads. Tom Bryden and Larry Blumberg will co-lead a much shorter, and slower paced, 2.5 mile loop hike also utilizing the FLT and parallel access roads. Both hikes will pass by the Winston Braxton Memorial bench, north of Will Warner Rd, erected in 1987 in his memory. Legend has it that good luck follows all who sit on Winston’s Bench ! Please direct any questions to Don Windsor ( windsorda@yahoo.com ) and/or to Larry Blumberg ( LBlumberg@stny.rr.com ). And, more details for this hike can also be found on the FLT’s website, http://www.fltconference.org/trails/index.php/what-s-happening/hike-programs/wally-wood-hike/ Filed under: Finger Lakes , Finger Lakes Trail , Hiking Tagged: Bullthistle Hiking Club , Otselic River , Winston Braxton
