Hiking Trails
This hike is another lead by the very knowledgable Susan Forbes of the Alpine Ranger Station just off Hwy 4 before Alpine Lake in the Stanislaus National Forest. Our group this morning was 15 people and 5 dogs. We left the Alpine Ranger Station, turned left on Hwy 4, drove up to the Bear Valley Ski Area turn off on the left, passed the dirt, Round Valley Road, on our right, continued up less than a quarter mile and parked on the right. This is a trail that meanders up to Round Valley and continues on the right side of the valley eventually connecting with up Round Valley dirt road and Bee Gulch Trail that comes up from Lake Alpine. We lunched at the intersection of Bee Gulch Trail and Round Valley Trail and Round Valley Rd. For this time of year the wild flowers are amazing, and Susan Forbes is fantastic at pointing out each one, including the unusual Steer Head. After lunch we meandered down and through the valley catching up with the trail as the meadow became forest again.
